In WordPress there is no need to write `llms.txt` by hand. Three major SEO plugins create the file themselves: [Yoast SEO](https://yoast.com/features/llms-txt/), [All in One SEO](https://aioseo.com/features/llms-txt/) and [Rank Math](https://rankmath.com/kb/llms-txt/). There is also a dedicated plugin for this one task.

The same plugins have printed structured data for years; it is their core job.

Switching the feature on takes a minute. Then the result has to be checked: an automatically assembled file can be too generic or fail to refresh.

## What the plugins can do

| Plugin | `llms.txt` | `llms-full.txt` | How it is enabled | Structured data |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yoast SEO | yes | not stated | a switch in settings | yes |
| All in One SEO | yes | yes | a switch in settings | yes |
| Rank Math | yes | no | a module enabled by hand | yes |
| [Website LLMs.txt](https://wordpress.org/plugins/website-llms-txt/) | yes | no; optional Markdown versions of pages | a separate plugin | no, not its job |

The facts come from the plugins' own pages. Capabilities change between releases: check the description of the current version before installing.

Do not run two plugins that both create `llms.txt`. There is one address, and one component should serve it.

## Why there are so many files on the web

- 39.6%
- of llms.txt files in the HTTP Archive crawl were made by All in One SEO: 3.6%
- were made by Yoast SEO: 68%
- of files in the Common Crawl corpus were made by a generator

Most files on the web exist not because an owner decided so, but because a plugin or a platform switched the feature on. That explains why many of them were never checked.

## How to enable it

1. Update the SEO plugin to the current version.
2. Find the `llms.txt` section in its settings and enable the feature.
3. If the plugin allows it, choose which post types go into the file: pages, posts, products.
4. Exclude service pages: cart, account, thank-you pages, search results.
5. Open `https://your-site/llms.txt` in a browser.

If the site uses a caching plugin or a CDN, purge the cache after enabling. Otherwise the old "not found" page may keep answering at the file address for a while.

## What to check afterwards

1. `/llms.txt` answers `200` and serves text, not the theme's HTML page.
2. The file has the site name and a short summary, not only a list of posts.
3. The list has no service pages, drafts or private sections.
4. Links point to working addresses on the same protocol and domain as the site.
5. The file refreshes after a new post is published.
6. `robots.txt` does not block the file.
7. The site has no second source of `llms.txt`: another plugin or a manually uploaded file.

## An automatic file and its limits

A plugin knows the structure of a site but not what matters on it. A typical automatic file is the complete list of posts in publication order.

A good map is built differently: a few sections by meaning, each with the most important material and a note. If the plugin lets you edit the summary and the sections, use that.

## Structured data in WordPress

SEO plugins print [Schema.org](https://schema.org/) markup with no extra setup: `WebSite`, `Organization`, `Article`, breadcrumbs. Store plugins add `Product` with price and availability.

Three things are worth checking:

- **Whether the organization card is filled.** The plugin takes the name, logo and contacts from settings; it does not guess them.
- **Whether the theme duplicates the plugin's markup.** Two markups of one product make two conflicting descriptions.
- **Whether the price in the markup matches the price on the page**, especially with discount modules.

Which markup is needed and how to check it: [Structured data and JSON-LD](https://llms-full-txt.ru/en/guides/json-ld/).

## What to expect

**Confirmed**

- Major SEO plugins create `llms.txt` automatically.
- Yoast itself writes that the file is not meant for search engines.
- Google and Yandex read the Schema.org markup these plugins print.

**Not proven**

- That enabling the feature will affect rankings or citations.

**What it does not mean**

- A plugin does not decide what matters on the site: that stays with the owner.
